Ethical & legal
‘Ethical’
is about right and wrong conduct and social responsibility. Groups
campaigning for human rights, or protesting against the killing of
endangered animals, or raising chickens in battery cages, are acting
ethically. Posting videos on YouTube of violent, humiliating or illegal
behaviour, or watching such videos and not reporting them are examples
of unethical behaviour.
‘Legal’
is conduct that is permitted by law, or not prevented by law. Obeying
traffic lights and speed limits is an example of legal behaviour. And
there are many examples of illegal behaviour - murder, assault,
blackmail, bribery, driving under the influence of drink or drugs.
